Samento is a natural herbal product which has a proven versatile beneficial effect on one’s health.  Its action is immonomodulatory, antimutagenic, antibacterial, diuretic and antiviral.

Samento is a unique plant species called Uncaria tomentosa.  It does not contain Tetracyclic oxindole alkaloids (TOA).     Tetracyclic oxindole alkaloids inhibit the action of the biologically active Pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids (POA) contained in the plant species, Uncaria tomentosa.   It is the POA that display a strong stimulating and modulating effect on the immune system and are believed to be responsible for, along with other active components of the herb, the anticarcinogenic effect of SAMENTO.  Although some Uncaria species (Uncaria rhynchophylla) show hypotensive action in animal tests, Uncaria tomentosa’s effect for normalizing human blood pressure is less studied.

The goal of our research was to analyze the effect of Samento 600 mg with or without Rooibos tea in hypertensive patients.   We reviewed letters from readers sent to “Lechitel” Weekly’s editors’ between November 2002 and May 2003.  The majority of these readers were following protocols recommended in “Lechitel Weekly”   After analyzing a significant number of letters sent by readers with different diagnoses, a total of 45 people were selected – 29 women and 16 men,  between the ages of 46 and 82, who had been diagnosed with essential hypertension.  Each reported having values of 160-190 mm Hg / 90-100 mm Hg.

The protocol according to which SAMENTO was prescribed varied as follows: 20% of the patients were taking 1 capsule daily for 6 months or more, 60% - 2 capsules daily for 3 months or more, 15% - 3 capsules daily for 2 to 3 months, and 5% - 6 capsules daily for 1 to 2 months.  Approximately 35% of the patients reported taking SAMENTO together with Rooibos tea.

The hypotensive effect occurred in patients after different periods of using the product, most often after a 30 – day application of two 600 mg capsules daily, in combination with Rooibos.  After taking Samento for two weeks, the patient’s blood pressure reached normal values: 120-130/70-80 mm Hg.  In some of the patients this normalization led to discontinuing the antihypertensive drug treatment.  Several patients reported the normalization of their blood pressure before the10th day!

An analysis of the data demonstrates that SAMENTO 600 mg has a beneficial hypotensive effect in patients with essential hypertension.  The likely cause of this effect is the vasodilative and myocardial relaxant component of the active substances found in the Pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids, as well as the diuretic effect of the product when used with Rooibos tea.  It is even more likely that this vital healing effect is due to the complex action and anti-inflammatory actions of the product, combined with the active participation of the glycosides, organic acids, polyphenols, and  flavonoids found in SAMENTO.

The positive results and information derived from the administering SAMENTO 600 mg to patients with essential hypertension should be treated as a preliminary report. A further study and detailed examination of the hypotensive action of SAMENTO is critical and imminent.
